Calcarius is an avant-garde natural wine project from Valentina Passalacqua, focused on the kimmeridgian limestone soils of her childhood town, Arpicena, at the feet of the Gargano mountains in Puglia.
Nero di Troia is a native variety to Puglia and is the third most planted (Negroamaro and Primitivo being the most widely) in the region.
This has to be one of the best "casual" reds I've tasted this year. Soft ripe fruit with some raisin characteristics backed by liquorice and dried herbs. Super fresh on the palate and offers a hint of masculinity.
