Estate: Ingrid & Jean-Philippe Bouchet founded Clos des Mourres in 2009 when they purchased 5 hectares on the top hillsides of Cairanne in the Rhone Valley. In 2012 they were able to increase their holdings with the addition of 10 hectares around their farmhouse in Vaison la Romaine. The husband and wife team are passionate about biodynamic and organic farming [certified organic]. Working naturally with the earth is “in our opinion, the only way to get the pure expression of the terroir”.
Winemaking: Hand harvested grapes are from “The Tile” vineyard at Vaison la Romaine; 35 year old vines are in clay, loam and sandy soils. 50% whole cluster/50% destemmed with a short fermentation with native yeasts, no sulfur added, unfined, unfiltered. The label states: “A cry from the heart of 100% Syrah, a call to share an essential and daily pleasure, sitting at the table.”
Tasting Notes: Inky red violet in colour, with complex aromas of crushed wild berries, cinnamon, earth, olive, white pepper, spearmint and a game/meaty trace. Green and black olive accent blackberry, blueberry, ylang ylang, violet, rosemary, dusty earth minerality and a meaty vein. Silky, firm tannins and soft acidity fuse with black currant, morello cherry, eucalyptus and black pepper on the velvety finish. Luscious and engaging.
